Pros and Cons of Breast Fat Grafting

Pros and Cons of Breast Fat Grafting

Though many people use breast implants to improve the size and shape of their breasts, some may prefer a more natural approach like fat grafting. For this breast augmentation, we use your own body fat to enhance breast size.

Combining artistic vision with medical science, Matthew J. Lynch, MD, is well-known for cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery and uses fat grafting for both aesthetics and function. If you’re considering breast surgery, but feel unsure about implants, then fat grafting may work for you.

Here, we want to share some of the pros and cons of breast fat grafting, so you can determine if this approach is a good option for you.

Pro: All-over body contouring

One of the biggest benefits of breast fat grafting is that it’s more of an all-over body contouring procedure. We liposuction fat from one area of your body and inject the fat into your breasts.

When we remove unwanted fat from your buttocks, thighs, or abdomen, we make sure we remove enough fat to improve shape, contours, and symmetry. Then, we inject that fat into your breasts to improve breast size, completing your look.

Con: Not everyone is a candidate

Unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate for breast fat grafting. If you don’t have enough fat for us to remove, we can’t perform the procedure.

Breast fat grafting makes a great choice for those with extra pockets of unwanted body fat who also want to increase the size of their breasts.

Pro: Naturally fuller breasts

Breast fat grafting creates a more natural-looking and feeling breast. Fat grafting also gives us more flexibility when it comes to shape and size.

We use breast fat grafting for breast reconstruction following a mastectomy or lumpectomy. We like fat grafting for lumpectomies because it allows us to restore your breasts' natural shape, without the need for major surgery.

And, because we use your own fat, there are fewer complications.

Con: Limitations in breast size

Breast fat grafting may limit how much we can enhance the size of your breasts. We generally recommend this approach for patients who only want to go up one cup size.

However, new techniques may allow us to add more fat to the breasts, giving us greater flexibility in size.

Many people are looking for a more natural approach to enhancing their beauty. Breast fat grafting makes a great alternative for those who want to enhance their breast size, but maintain a more natural look and feel.
