Liposuction (which is also sometimes referred to as suction lipectomy or lipoplasty), is intended to contour and/or reshape specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving body contour and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing the patient’s self-image.

Liposuction is not to be considered as a substitute for weight loss or an appropriate exercise program. Anyone considering liposuction should understand that it is not a weight loss option. Instead, liposuction can enhance your appearance and boost your confidence. Liposuction can sculpt and contour areas of your body that may have an unpleasing shape from changes in fat distribution due to age, weight fluctuations or pregnancy. The laxity or elasticity of your skin will have an impact on overall results.

The best candidates for a Liposuction procedure are men or women who are in relatively good shape, and exercise regularly but who are concerned about excess fat deposits which have proved to be resistant to diet and exercise.

The purpose of liposuction is not to remove the largest amount of fat possible. The goal with liposuction is to achieve a pleasing contour and shape for a particular area of the body.

Liposuction is commonly used to address localized fat pockets located in the

  • Abdomen and waist
  • Thighs, hips and buttocks
  • Arms, neck and back
  • Inner knee
  • Chest

Liposuction is normally done as an outpatient procedure unless a large volume of fat is being removed. It can also be used in conjunction with other procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, fat grafting or a tummy tuck.
