Congenital breast deformities include the inconsistent or asymmetrical development of breast tissue in late childhood or adolescence. These deformities may be unilateral or bilateral and include absence of breast tissue development (amastia) minimal breast development ( hypoplasia), excessive breast development (gigantomastia) or disorders of breast shape such as tubular breast deformity. Techniques to correct these deformities include tissue expansion and breast implants, breast reduction, mastopexy and fat grafting.

Congenital breast deformities can have a profound effect on the psychosocial and emotional development of a teenaged girl or boy. It becomes critical to recognize these disorders and plan intervention early to maintain individual wellness, confidence and a positive self- image.
